Dmitri Tcherniakov's production of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen, which was highly praised by audiences and the press, will return to the stage of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden with two cycles at the beginning of the 2025/26 season. Christian Thielemann, who already conducted the Staatskapelle at the celebrated premieres in October 2022, will now conduct Richard Wagner's monumental work as General Music Director of the Staatsoper.

A myth, a heroic epic, a family saga, perhaps all of the above - that is Richard Wagner's Ring tetralogy. Like a universe, a panorama of characters, situations and events unfolds that is almost impossible to comprehend in its abundance and mutual entanglements. This great whole is underpinned by truly great themes: Love and hate, trust and disappointment, envy and empathy, power and powerlessness, life and death and much more, in ever-changing constellations. This story unfolds over several generations, encompassing various storylines that are finally brought together and resolved.

Pre-sale starts on February 18, 2025 at 12 pm

With among others Michael Volle (Wotan and Der Wanderer), Anja Kampe (Brünnhilde), Andreas Schager (Siegfried), Vida Miknevičiūtė (Sieglinde), Eric Cutler (Siegmund), Mika Kares (Fasolt, Hunding and Hagen), Johannes Martin Kränzle (Alberich), Claudia Mahnke (Fricka), Anna Kissjudit (Erda), Stephan Rügamer (Mime) and Roman Trekel (Donner), Lauri Vasar (Gunther), Peter Rose (Fafner), Marina Prudenskaya (Waltraute) as well as the Staatsopernchor and the Staatskapelle Berlin, the top-class singers who thrilled audiences at the premiere cycle can be experienced again with only a few new cast members.

‘His [Dmitri Tcherniakovs] handiwork is unimpeachable; every person on stage is a fully rounded, complex character, and the social dynamics are directed with scrupulous attention to detail.’ - Financial Times, 11th October 2022.
