Guiding principle

What makes us special

The Staatsoper Unter den Linden is the oldest opera house in Berlin. Since its foundation, it has been located in the cultural, political and social centre.

Together with the 450-year-old Staatskapelle Berlin, it stands for the highest musical and staging quality.

Despite its historical dimension and long tradition, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden aims to establish itself as an open opera house that is interesting and accessible to Berlin audiences, international guests and new visitors of all ages.

What drives us

As one of the leading opera houses in Germany and Europe, we offer outstanding and relevant music theatre. We are constantly opening up bold, new perspectives on opera as an art form, exploring new forms and promoting contemporary culture.

With new concepts and unconventional constellations, we want to open up new audiences for opera and concerts and enable broad participation in our diverse cultural programme.

We see the promotion of young musical talent as a central task for the future viability of the institution and the art form as well as for ensuring our excellence.

This is important to us

Our partners are an important part of our cultural ecosystem, whether in close collaboration with other cultural and music education institutions, nationally and internationally, or with our sponsors, patrons and supporters. We strive for long-term, trusting relationships.

Tolerance, gender equality and equal opportunities as well as appreciative, fair and respectful interaction between employees, guests and partners is an essential part of our corporate culture and the basis of our internal values.

Our employees are the hotel's most valuable resource. We create a positive and trusting working environment and an open and constructive culture of dialogue and discussion as the basis for maximum performance.

We are committed to a strong awareness of ecological sustainability. The concept for a climate-friendly opera house is to be further developed and will progress from short-term to long-term, possibly also structural, measures. The involvement of all departments, as well as partnerships with external research institutions and experts, is essential for this.
