Supported Projects

Art needs Friends!

The mission of the Friends and Sponsors of the Staatsoper

The Friends and Sponsors of the Staatsoper have come together to support the work of one of the most renowned opera houses on the world. Ever since the association’s formation in 1992, we have sponsored many productions and projects by the Staatsoper. Thanks to the commitment of our members, stage designs and costumes, new instruments for the Staatskapelle as well as the employment of a pedagogue for musical theatre have been funded.

Maestro Daniel Barenboim, leading figure of the Staatsoper as conductor and pianist, is happy: „Without the generous support of the Friends and Sponsors even in difficult times, one or the other performance would not have come to the audience in the quality that we strive for.“

The refurbishment of the Opera House Unter den Linden

From 2006 to 2010, our association particularly supported the urgently needed refurbishment of the Opera House Unter den Linden. To this end, a demand analysis of the building was commisioned in 2006 and funded by the Friends and Sponsors. The results of this analysis have been the basis for further – mainly political - decisions, in what form the Opera House should be refurbished.

September 2010 saw the beginning of the refurbishment work at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. With a contribution of €3m, the Friends and Sponsors fund the refurbishment of the extraordinarily beautiful Apollo-Hall.

The Senate Department for Urban Development and Environment informs on the progress of the Staatsoper's reconstruction on its homepage (German only): www.stadtentwicklung.berlin.de
