WHAT A HAT!

Toni Winter | Hatter and milliner

Following the success of the last three years, this year's students will also be on the tracks of new professions in our theatre.

The children participating are fascinated by the world of the stage and plunge deep into the music and its history and stories. But they also want to know how everything is made and who the persons in the »theatre profession« are. At the Academy, artistic, technical and »invisible« professionals introduce themselves and give an insight into their fields of work.

On the first Sunday of each month the Werkstatt studio of Schiller Theatre becomes a lecture room. Artists and other experts in musical theatre reveal the secrets of their trade to interested young people from 9 to 13 years old. They explain what they do in the opera, where their ideas come from and how these ideas become reality. The children can ask questions and find out how »opera as an emotional power station« comes into being. The eight lectures are distributed through both the winter and summer semesters. The number of places for study is limited. The tuition fee is 20 EUR per child; their siblings pay a reduced fee of 10 EUR. Enrolment is on the day of the first lecture and they will receive a student ID and a booklet in which they can keep a record of their courses, signed by the artist-professors after each lecture.

All those who attended regularly in the first, second and third years may of course attend the new lectures, but must however register again. To this end, please send us a short report with your impressions and memories of your favourite lecture.

The following applies to all children interested in our academy: Please apply for your place in writing by sending us your stories or pictures explaining your curiosity and enthusiasm for opera. Don’t forget to state your parents’ address and e-mail address. If there are more applicants than places, the places will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
